Qatar’s long-term commitment

In the face of one of the gravest humanitarian catastrophes of our time, Qatar continues to stand firmly and unequivocally by the Palestinian people. The recent Israeli war on Gaza, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives and left entire neighborhoods erased, has also produced an unbearable human tragedy: more than 50,000 Palestinian children have been orphaned, many of them under the age of ten, and thousands suffering permanent injuries.

These are not mere numbers—they are lives undone, childhoods shattered, futures thrust into uncertainty.

It is against this backdrop that Qatar’s steadfast humanitarian commitment takes on renewed moral weight.

At the annual event “The Whole Story… Palestine” in Doha, Minister of State for International Cooperation H.E. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad reaffirmed a principle that has guided Qatar’s humanitarian diplomacy for decades: standing with Palestine is not a matter of politics, but of conscience. She reminded the gathering that humanitarianism is not a charitable gesture—it is a responsibility shared by all who refuse to accept injustice as normal.

Under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has translated this conviction into tangible support. The launch of the Al Noor Initiative for Gaza orphans—implemented through the Cooperation Foundation—is not a symbolic gesture, but a structured, long-term commitment. The programme, spanning five years, aims to restore dignity, stability, emotional security, and the right to hope for thousands of children whose lives have been ruptured by war.

This initiative follows Qatar’s earlier pledge to sponsor 3,000 orphaned children from Gaza and provide medical treatment to 1,500 wounded individuals in urgent need of care. As Minister Al Misnad expressed with clarity and compassion: “Every child who has lost their family has a family in Qatar.” These words speak to a national ethos that sees humanity beyond borders.

Qatar’s efforts, however, extend beyond relief. The State continues to work tirelessly with regional and international partners to secure a permanent ceasefire and ensure the safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid. Diplomacy and humanitarian action are pursued in parallel—two expressions of the same commitment to protect human dignity.

Yet, as the Minister cautioned, Qatar cannot meet the enormity of Gaza’s suffering alone. The scale of destruction has left entire societies in ruin. Rebuilding lives requires the solidarity of every nation, every institution, and every individual who values justice and humanity.

The children of Gaza are not asking for charity—they are asking for the world not to abandon them.

As Qatar continues to lead by example, the question remains: Will the world answer this call of conscience?

History will remember those who looked away—and those who chose to stand with humanity.
