The development of human capital in Qatar is being recognized at both regional and international levels thanks to priority attached by Qatar’s wise leadership to education.

The achievements Qatar has made so far and set to make in coming times in the development of human capital are being lauded globally. A symposium titled “Development of Human Capital Towards Achieving Sustainable Development” organized by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics has shed light on these achievements.

The Human Capital Report of the World Economic Forum released in 2017, also ranked Qatar at 55 out of 130 countries in the human capital index last year which was an improvement in its rank by 11 places compared to 2016.

In his speech, which was delivered on his behalf by Hamad Rashid Al Athba, Assistant Under-Secretary for Planning Affairs of the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics; Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H E Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem Al Nabit, said that the attention to the education process in the country was reflected in the net enrolment rates in education, which reached 94 percent for children enrolment in primary education, 87 percent for enrolment in secondary education and 99 percent for enrolment in adult literacy in 2016.

The minister further said that the Ministry is working on issuing the Fifth National Human Development Report, in recognition of the growing national, regional and international necessities to meet the challenges in the areas of human development, and in implementation of the directives of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Qatar’s recently launched National Development Strategy 2018-2022 too reflects vision of country’s leadership and the importance it gives to education. Qatar is not only promoting quality education at domestic front  by establishing standard educational and reserach institutions from basic to higher levels in both public and private sectors but also contributing a lot to spread the light of knowledge across the globe through various initiatives taken by Qatar Foundation like “Education Above All” and other organizations.

The National development Strategy 2018-2022 is also consistent with the UN’s 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development and has adopted a comprehensive and holistic approach to human-centered sustainable development.

Qatar National Vision 2030 also gives priority to building an education system that keeps pace with the international educational standards, and meets the needs of the citizens and the Qatari community in this aspect. Development of human capital is real development and education is the master-key to unlock human potential.
