Qatar’s main gateway to the world trade, Hamad Port is the main driver of economic activity related to maritime trade, and goes beyond the needs of the local market. It plays a pivotal role in stimulating various economic activities, especially industry, warehousing and logistics services, while adhering to the highest environmental and development standards.
Its proximity to industrial and economic zones contributes to reducing transportation costs and speeding up the movement of goods, which enhances commercial competitiveness. The port’s strong performance reflects the advanced infrastructure, modern technologies, and premium services it provides. The port’s cutting-edge infrastructure, automated systems, and scalable design enable the rapid handling of diverse cargo types, including containers, bulk and general cargo, and RORO operations.
Hamad Port handled approximately 1.44 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), driven by a 3% increase in transshipment volumes, which accounted for nearly 50% of total container throughput, according to Annual Report 2025 by Mwani Qatar released recently. Achieving a landmark accomplishment in 2025, Hamad Port was ranked first in the Gulf region and 11th globally in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), issued by the World Bank and S&P Global. This recognition underscores the port’s position as a leading global trade gateway and a key contributor to the national economy. This performance further strengthened the port’s role as a regional transshipment hub, supported by its strategic geographic location and a maritime network connecting it to more than 100 global destinations.
Beyond container operations, the port recorded exceptional growth exceeding 178% in livestock handling compared to the previous year. General and bulk cargo volumes also increased by 11% year-on-year, reaching 1,576,125 tons. In parallel, the port received 1,686 vessels, representing a 7% increase, reflecting growing confidence among international shipping lines, the report stated. Sustainability remained a core strategic priority.
The port marked a significant environmental milestone by entering Guinness World Records for implementing the largest mangrove replanting project globally, reaffirming its commitment to integrating operational excellence with environmental stewardship, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Recently, Mwani Qatar announced that it has activated an exceptional package of facilitations in port tariffs aimed at supporting the logistics sector and facilitating operational activities in Qatar with a focus on enhancing and supporting supply chains.
The facilitation comes as part of the Ministry of Transport’s strategy to support the private sector and strengthen partnerships and within the framework of Mwani Qatar’s commitment to reduce financial burdens on customers, providing suitable and flexible storage options that meet the needs of various sectors.
