Hamad International Airport (HIA) has added another feather to its crown of glory. The award-winning airport moved up one place from last year and was ranked fifth ‘Best Airport in the World’ at the Skytrax World  Airport Awards 2018. HIA is the only airport in the Middle East in the world’s top 10 air-ports of 2018.

The award is in recognition of the airport’s innovative facilities and five-star customer service. The terminal has been described as the most architecturally significant terminal complex in the world, as well as being the most luxurious.

HIA is one of the world’s most technologically advanced airports with expansive retail options, leading dining facilities, exclusive lounges, and a hotel and wellness centre including a gym, squash court, swimming pool and spa.

HIA also took home the title of ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ for the fourth year in a row, ‘Best Staff Service in the Middle East’ for the third year in a row and was ranked fourth ‘Best Airport for Shopping’ in the world, up one place from last year.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker said: “I am extremely proud to see our home and hub, Hamad International Airport, achieve another significant milestone in its journey, and continue to be recognised for its excellence on  global scale.

“At HIA, we are committed to ensuring that our passengers’ experience is  as  exceptional on the ground as it is in the sky. Being ranked fifth Best Airport in the World truly inspires us to continue to innovate, ensuring that this outstanding facility is not just an airport, but truly a destination experience in itself”.

Gearing up to welcome 50 million passengers in the years to come, HIA is implementing its Smart Airport Programme aimed  at  empowering  passengers through cutting-edge technologies. The airport’s passenger-centric approach is designed to give passengers full control and independence over their journey, from arrival and transfers to  boarding, achieving minimal and seamless connection time.

HIA is thriving to introduce automated processes and self-service at every touch point of the travel journey in order to facilitate faster passenger movement within the terminal, while complying with the highest standards for service quality, security and safety.

Last month, the airport was listed among the 14 most beautiful airports in the world by the financial news website ‘Business Insider’. The airport was recently recognised for its punctuality, ranking next to first, among the most punctual major airports with a score of 85.41 percent on-time performance (OTP), as demonstrated in aviation analysts OAG’s 2017 Punctuality Report released recently.

Hamad International Airport is one of the most advanced airports in the world and is accelerating its digital transformation to become the airport of the future.
