Under the wise leadership of the Amir, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has been taking every effort to put education at the top of priorities for a knowledge-based economy, realising the importance of investing in people which is of paramount significance for achieving a sustainable development and comprehensive growth.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, while giving the keynote address during the graduation ceremony of Hamad Bin Khalifa University on Sunday, said that the role of educated Qataris and residents was an important factor in addressing the challenges of the crisis that hit the Gulf region and targeted the State of Qatar and its people since June 2017.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also called for the de-politisation of education in the event of dispute between states.
With the establishment of the Education City under the auspices of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Qatar has been witnessing its young men and women going places and bringing in laurels for the country.
The far-sighted vision of the Father Amir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, shared by H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, materialised in the form of Qatar Foundation, which propelled the country into the pinnacle of the great mountain of education and knowledge.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs rightly said that the strength of people is first measured by their scientific capabilities and then by other factors and this is what history confirmed by the course of international relations and invested in by politics.
Qatar has allocated 2.8 percent of its annual revenue to scientific research. The state has been equally concerned about the education of children in other parts of the world, especially those who were displaced by wars, conflicts and natural disasters. Recently the Education Above All programme under Qatar Foundation, celebrated achieving the goal of educating 10 million less-privileged children from around the world.
Good education enhances personal advancement, increases social status, results in economic progress, sets goals of life and makes people aware about many social issues and gives solutions to environmental problems. Investing in human capital will never go waste.
