They say actions speak louder than words. Qatar is the country which sets examples through its deeds and not by mere lip service. Also, Qatar’s role in alleviating humanitarian sufferings across the world places the State at an honourable distinctive position among the world nations.

Apart from dozens of generous initiatives taken by various Qatari organizations like Qatar Foundation and Qatar Charity to serve the humanity around the globe, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) is also contributing a lot to ameliorate sufferings of people caught in different kinds of distress on different reasons.

The State of Qatar, represented by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) pledged $20m in financial support to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people during a meeting held in Geneva last month.

On this occasion, the Director General of (QFFD), Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, pointed out that the Qatari financial commitment comes within the framework of supporting the inter-agency 2018 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan. He also called for the need for friendly countries to respond to the suffering of the brotherly people of Yemen adding “this crisis is a great humanitarian catastrophe not only in the Middle East but in the entire world”.

The same month, Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) and Qatar Charity represented Qatar as strategic partners of Aid & Trade London – an annual event that brings together members of the global aid community.

Qatar is also calling for an international review of the humanitarian aid system to address the growing number of complex emergencies in long-term conflict zones.

During his speech at Aid & Trade London, Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari said: “There are several trends and indicators showing that the humanitarian aid and development system is not functioning at its best … reform and improvement to the humanitarian aid and development system is not a luxury, it’s a necessity”.

During the event, Qatar Charity and Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) announced a cooperation and partnership agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide $9m in financial support to offer basic services to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

Separately, Qatar Fund for Development  signed another $3m agreement with the World Food Program (WFP) to help displaced people in Iraq. The QFFD also signed a $2m agreement with the United Nations (UN) Humanitarian Coordinator to support emergency relief efforts for some of Afghanistan’s most needy communities.

Qatar’s role in global humanitarian efforts is a shining example for those wealthy states which loosen the strings of their purses reluctantly and intermittently.
