Oslo: One person aboard a North Sea drilling rig was killed when the vessel was struck by a huge wave, Norwegian oil company
Statoil said late Wednesday.
Two people were injured in the mishap off the Norwegian coast and helicoptered to the mainland for emergency medical treatment, German News Agency (dpa) reported.
The rig was evacuated except for the emergency crew, who were able to steer the vessel to shore under its own power.
Drilling had been halted due to bad weather at the time of the accident, which Statoil described as a breaking wave.
