DOHA: Alzabyr made a winning Qatar debut with a commanding performance in the Al Gharafa Cup for three-year-old Purebred Arabians over 1600m at Al Rayyan Racecourse yesterday.
Ridden by Marco Casamento, the promising colt tracked the pace before unleashing a strong finish in the home straight to claim a decisive victory for owner Nasser Saif Al Kubaisi.
The success also earned trainer Mohammed Al Ghazali a double on the card, having later saddled Make Love (Thoroughbred Rated Maiden Plate) to victory in the final race of the meeting.
Head of Racing Operations at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, Rashid Saed Adiba, crowned the winners of the feature race.
It was a productive evening for jockey Alberto Sanna, who completed a quickfire double with wins aboard Weissmuller in the Thoroughbred Handicap and Kawaii D’Vialettes in the Purebred Arabian Handicap.

Alzabyr, ridden by Marco Casamento, takes lead in the race.
