Doha, Qatar: The State of Qatar is dedicated to intensifying its ongoing endeavours in combatting human trafficking.
These efforts are rooted in the nation’s commitment to Islamic Shariah, which strictly forbids any form of degradation to human dignity, upholds the utmost respect for human rights, and places significant emphasis on combating such criminal acts through a comprehensive approach, the Ministry of Labour said in its message on the occasion of World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
The State of Qatar participates in the celebration of the International Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which was approved by the United Nations General Assembly, and falls on the July 30 every year.
Represented in the establishment of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, based on Cabinet Resolution No. (15) of 2017. It plays the role of the national coordinator for monitoring, preventing and combating human trafficking through coordination with all concerned authorities in this regard, as the committee makes continuous efforts in the field of training and building the capacities of national cadres and law enforcement officials in order to enhance their capabilities to identify these crimes, identify cases that amount to human trafficking crimes, and join the conventions and protocols dealing with these crimes.
The Ministry further said that the State of Qatar has not only issued legislation and regulations combating human trafficking crimes, but has also been keen to make the necessary efforts to implement and activate them through mechanisms and initiatives that contribute to enhancing societal awareness of organizational, legal and procedural aspects, in a way that preserves human dignity and protects his rights.
As the State of Qatar comes at the forefront of countries that annually receive large numbers of expatriate labour forces, and this comes as a commitment to achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030. One of the first priorities of the State of Qatar is to combat all forms of human trafficking and forced labour, which stressed the importance of the modern strategy to combat slavery. In all its forms, on prevention, judicial prosecution, protection of victims and guarantee of human rights, through several measures, the most important of which is ensuring the arrival of the worker to the State of Qatar without tied debts, which gives the worker greater freedom and eliminates a type of forced labour and human trafficking.
The State of Qatar has issued laws, legislation, regulations, and instructions, and has taken measures to ensure effective implementation to protect and promote the rights of expatriate workers before recruitment, and they are applied through the competent departments in the labour affairs sector at the Ministry of Labour.
The Ministry has further asserted that the State of Qatar has actively undertaken numerous concrete measures to tackle human trafficking in accordance with international regulations.
Additionally, Qatar has been proactive in fostering collaboration to address shared challenges, demonstrating its backing of the United Nations Action Plan and its commitment to effectively combat human trafficking. This support is evident through the establishment of a comprehensive national legal and institutional framework and the endorsement of both local and global initiatives, the Ministry’s message said.
