QNA

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is carrying out a humanitarian programme in Southern Sudan launched earlier this year to meet urgent needs of people affected by the cholera outbreak.
The humanitarian programme, which is supported by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), covers shelter, water and environmental sanitation sectors and is also aimed at raising capacity of local medical staff. According to reports, the establishment of many necessary sanitation facilities within hospitals, schools and refugee camps has been completed while a number of facilities were rehabilitated, QRCS said in a press release yesterday.
The reports also show the completion of training programmes targeting local medical personnel on the cholera epidemic and means of prevention, QRCS said, adding that a number of environmental sanitation projects and the assessment process of cholera outbreak have been completed.
QRCS is conducting awareness campaigns aimed at raising the level of personal hygiene, preventing disease, communicating with parents as well as providing daily health and prevention awareness.
Large parts of South Sudan face lack of food security amid rising food prices, especially in the tropical region, which has recently witnessed a wave of violence that has affected all basic services and caused displacement among the population.
