London: Preparations were finalised for the Qatar Goodwood Festival, which will take place in England starting Tuesday. It will conclude on Saturday with a host of the best of the best racing horses competing on Goodwood.
There will be at least seven races a day on every day for the competition. The year 2014 saw the announcement of a partnership between Goodwood and Qatar to sponsor the race. It was the biggest sponsorship agreements of its kind for British races. The year 2015 saw the launch of the festival as one of the most important of its kind in the world.
The festival organisers, top owners of horses and coaches attended a press conference a few days ago to announce the countdown for the festival. There was a special announcement for the Qatar International Stakes race which has a prize money of £400,000, and the Qatar Sussex Stakes which has a total prize money of £1m.
Goodwood clerk of the course, Seamus Buckley, spoke of preparations for the big event and said that the maintenance of the race course was difficult due to the weather. The increased rainfall last week then made it even more difficult. He added that they are always committed to having the race course in the best shape for the festival.
Since the announcement of partnership, the festival launched the Triple Crown race which is one of the more prominent events for Arabian horses. The event is a big one for racers and fans alike, especially that its prize money reaches $1m. The event involves three races in three different countries. The second race is in the Qatar International Equestrian Festival in Paris. The third race, meanwhile, HH the Emir International Equestrian Sword Festival in Doha.
The Goodwood festival is gaining European-wide media attention, with a number of networks broadcasting the event.
