MOGADISHU: At least seven people, including two attackers, were killed in a bombing and shooting attack by the Islamist al Shabaab group on Somalia's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters on Sunday, police said.

"We have confirmed seven dead including civilians and two militants," Ali Mohamed, a police officer, told Reuters. He said police had killed two gunmen who stormed into the building in the capital after two car bombs exploded outside.

Al Shabaab militants said they were behind the attack.

"A fighter rammed a suicide car bomb into CID then other armed fighters stormed inside. We are now fighting inside the CID building," Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab's military operations spokesman, told Reuters.
