Kathmandu: Nepal’s Ministry of Labour and Employment yesterday refuted a report published by the Guardian on the conditions of its workers in Qatar.
In a statement, the ministry said the report inaccurately quoted Minister of State for Labour and Employment Tek Bahadur Gurung with regard to Nepali workers in Qatar following the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25.
The ministry said that “the content of the report does not reflect the spirit of the minister who had appealed, in good faith, to all employers of Qatar to facilitate the return of Nepali workers to join their family members who have been victims of the earthquake”.
The ministry said employers in Qatar responded positively and Nepalese workers were being helped to return home.
The ministry said it expected fact-based and responsible reports from a reputed newspaper like the Guardian in future.
It also expressed full confidence that “such unfounded reports would not affect excellent relations between Nepal and Qatar”.QNA
