Milan--Spain's Alberto Contador kept his hopes of a rare cycling double alive when he secured his seventh Grand Tour title with overall victory in the Giro d'Italia on Sunday.
Contador (Tinkoff) finished the 98th edition of the race with a comfortable lead on Italian rival Fabio Aru (Astana) to claim his second pink jersey after his maiden triumph in 2008.
The 21st stage of the race was won by Etixx-Quick Step rider Iljo Keisse, who outsprinted Australian Luke Durbridge at the end of a final stage from Torino to Milan.
Contador, who also has two Tour de France yellow jerseys and three Tour of Spain titles, has maintained his bid to become the first cyclist since deceased Italian Marco Pantani, in 1998, to win the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France in the same calendar year.
