DOHA: Qatar Stars League (QSL) side Al Arabi has terminated the contract of Hussein Kharja after the midfielder was fined and suspended following a free-for-all fracas in the Qatar Stars Cup semi-final more than a week, a report said yesterday.

The Moroccan was fined QR 380,000 and suspended for 10 football games by the QSL Disciplinary Committee for a kung-fu-like attack on Nene of Al Gharafa on March 19.

Nene was fined QR 350,000 and suspended for 9 QSL games.

The decision comes after Lekhwiya yesterday crushed Al Arabi 4-1 in their round match in QSL.

The QSL Disciplinary Committee also punished Abdullah Marafih (suspended five matches), Abdulaziz Hatem (suspended three matches) and Mohammed Khalifa Al Kuwari (suspended two matches).

Kharja began his career with Paris Saint-Germain’s youth side and in 2000 he joined Portuguese side Sporting Clube de Portugal.

After only one season, he joined Ternana in 2001.

He played four impressive Serie B seasons for the Rossoverdi, gaining a place in the Moroccan national team, and being loaned to Roma in 2005.

At the end of the 2005–06 season, Roma decided not to extend Kharja’s loan, so the Moroccan player returned back to Ternana.

On 20 March 2007, Kharja signed a three-year contract with Serie B team Piacenza.

In June 2012, Kharja signed a two-year deal with QSL side Al Arabi.

Kharja has also played for Genoa and Internazionale.
