QWSC Chairperson Lulwa Al Marri is seen at a special dinner hosted for the visiting Bayern Munich women’s football team at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha. German ambassador to Qatar HE Hans-Udo Muzel also attended the dinner gathering.
DOHA: The Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC) on Monday night hosted the visiting Bayern Munich’s women’s football team at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).
The gala dinner was put together just two days ahead of Qatar’s women’s football friendly against Bayern Munich on Friday at QWSC headquarters.
Lulwa Al Marri, Chairperson of QWSC, gave a welcoming speech to highlight the growing sports relationship between Qatar and Germany.
German ambassador to Qatar HE Hans-Udo Muzel also attended the dinner gathering along with officials from the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and other high-ranking representatives from QWSC.
“I am very pleased to welcome the German sports delegation represented by the Bayern Munich women’s team, one of the most famous teams in Europe,” Lulwa Al Marri said in her opening remarks.
“I would like to extend my appreciation and gratitude to you for accepting our invitation to choose Doha as the venue for your winter training camp and to play the friendly match with Qatari women’s team. We look forward to benefiting from this friendly match,” she added.
“We are proud of the achievements we have made in the sports world. We will continue to strive to be better in times to come as we have plans to build solid foundations for our sports teams,” she added.
“We value the football friendly that is coming up as this will help us in building a strong football team. The women’s sports sector has developed manifold in recent times thanks to the vision and leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser, who is our source of pride in our women’s sporting success,” she added.
“Her Highness Sheikha Mozah is one of the most prominent women leaders who has made rich contributions in education and empowerment of women. Whether it is sports, community or educational activities, Qatari women have done remarkably well in contributing towards building healthy communities in the country,” the QWSC chief said.
“The relationship between the State of Qatar and Germany is closely linked and these relations have become stronger as we make sporting exchanges such as this trip of the Bayern Munich women’s football team to Doha. These sporting exchanges bring us together and make our relationships stronger,” she added in her speech.
German ambassador HE Hans-Udo Muzel praised the cooperation between Qatar and Germany in all fields.
“The visit of the Bayern Munich women’s football team is an opportunity to enhance communication and exchange experiences for the benefit of those who love sport in this country. The QWSC and Aspire Academy are two centres in promoting all kinds of sports in Qatar. I am hoping that the friendly match between the two teams on Friday will benefit women’s football in Qatar,” he said in his remarks.
Christopher Kiel, Director of Public Relations, Bayern Munich: “We are very pleased to be here along with our women’s football team in Qatar. We have set up a winter training camp and are now getting ready to play a friendly match against the Qatar team.”
The banquet was also attended by Mohamed Nasser Al Othman, Director of Public and International Relations, HE Hennig Zimmermann, Chairman, German Business Council in Qatar, Ms. Fatima Al Nuaimi, Director of Communication Department, Higher Committee for Projects and Heritage, Ms Mead Al Emadi, Higher Committee for Projects and Legacy, veteran journalist Laila Smati and Ms Maha Al Abdaljabar, Assistant Secretary of the QWSC.
