Ooredoo announced yeterday that it will once again support the annual Al-Galayel Championship, as the traditional event is set to kick off in Qatar this weekend.
The Al-Galayel Championship is a regional hunting tournament where 17 teams compete in the southern nature reserves of Qatar in a range of contests that showcase traditional skills.
This is the fourth year that Ooredoo will support the event, and the Al-Galayel Championship is set to run from 3 February until 3 March, 2017.
The sporting event welcomes a broad cross-section of hunting teams from all over the region, and plays a key role in conservation.
Preapproved animals are marked by the tournament’s organising committee to distinguish from those animals that are protected in the nature reservation, and the event contributes to the preservation of the local ecosystem.
Waleed Al-Sayed, said: “We’re proud to once again support one of our strongest traditions and one of the most important tournaments in Qatar. Al-Galayel is not just about hunting, but about sportsmanship, nature and educating our young on hunting methods which have been passed down for generations. This is an important part of Qatari culture, and we wish all the teams the best of luck in 2017.”
Khalid bin Mohammed Al Maadeed, Chairman of the Al-Galayel Championship, said: “We’re proud to be supported by Ooredoo, and thank the company for helping us carry on Qatar’s traditions.
This year’s tournament is set to the biggest yet, with teams from across the region travelling to take part.”
Ooredoo’s sponsorship of the event is part of the company’s wider work in promoting Qatar’s history and national identity. Last month it also sponsored the Hejen Racing Festival, held at the Al Shahaniya Camel Racetrack.
