Doha, Qatar: Qatar is participating in the 87th International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) general assembly held via video conference from October 19 to November 2.

The Qatari delegation in the meeting is headed by Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology Assistant Chairman Eng. Nawaf Ibrahim Al Hamad Al Mana, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport. In addition to the commission’s general assembly, the meeting agenda includes many discussion panels and workshops.

The session was inaugurated with a speech by IEC President Jo Cops, in which he emphasised the diversity of countries and experts involved in drafting international electrical and technical standards. He highlighted the inclusion of compliance assessment work and how this diversity, with expertise and experiences from 89 member countries, enables the commission to derive more effective solutions to global challenges.

The IEC’s general assembly held Thursday discussed several topics and reviewed periodic reports of the commission’s presidency and general secretariat. It also involved the adoption of the previous year’s final accounts and financial statements and the projected budget for the following year.
