Kuala Lumpur: The number of active enterprises in Malaysia increased 2.9 percent to 755,342 in 2025 from 734,089 a year earlier, official data showed on Tuesday.
The services sector remained the largest contributor, with 595,137 active enterprises, accounting for 78.8 percent of the total, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
This was followed by the construction and manufacturing sectors, with 67,145 and 60,564 active enterprises, respectively.
Enterprise births increased 9.6 percent to 60,671 in 2025, lifting the enterprise birth rate to 8 percent from 7.5 percent in 2024.
However, the enterprise death rate also rose to 5.2 percent from 3.9 percent, as the number of enterprise deaths increased to 39,418 from 28,924 a year earlier.
Over the longer term, the five-year survival rate for enterprises established in 2020 and still operating in 2025 stood at 72.5 percent.
