Doha, Qatar: The Services and Public Utilities Committee of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) met to discuss regulating the sale of subsidised sheep during seasons and holidays, based on a proposal submitted by Council Member Fahad bin Hamad Al-Buraidi, representative of District 19.
The meeting was attended by relevant officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Widam Food Company, and the Livestock Department.
The meeting addressed preparations and arrangements for the subsidized sheep sales season, mechanisms for supplying the sheep, and the organisation of sales and distribution processes to ensure smooth procedures and easy access for citizens during seasons and holidays.
The meeting also discussed the importance of increasing the number of subsidized sheep to meet anticipated demand, as well as increasing the capacity for slaughtering and processing operations, and bolstering staff at service outlets and facilities. This will contribute to faster processing of requests, reduced waiting times, and improved service quality.
The committee emphasised the importance of providing dedicated and expedited service times and outlets for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and those with special needs, taking their needs into account and ensuring their easy access to services. This should be done in conjunction with developing and enhancing electronic services and streamlining booking, purchasing, and service utilization procedures.
The committee also reviewed coordination mechanisms among relevant authorities and the procedures in place to regulate sales outlets, reduce overcrowding, and improve the efficiency of distribution processes. This aims to provide a more flexible and organized service for citizens and ensure that support reaches those entitled to it according to the approved mechanisms.
The meeting stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination among the various competent authorities, preparing early for seasons and holidays, and enhancing the readiness of sales, slaughtering, and support service facilities. This will ensure the availability of subsidized sheep in appropriate quantities and provide citizens with efficient and rapid service that meets their needs.
