International Billiards and Snooker Federation President Mubarak Al Khayarin, Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation President Mohammed Mubarak Al Ramzani and other top officials with Qatari cueists after the conclusion of the GCC Billiards and Snooker Ch
Doha: Qatar won the overall title at the GCC Billiards and Snooker Championship organised by the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation (QBSF) at Al Messila Resort over six days. Six cueists from GCC countries – Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and the UAE participated in the event.
Qatar topped the overall standing after winning seven medals – four gold, one silver and two bronze. The UAE ranked second with seven medals – one gold, four silver and two bronze. Saudi Arabia came third with five medals - one gold, two silver and two bronze, followed by Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
Qatar won four gold medals with Bashar Hussein clinching the billiards 9-Ball title, before he teamed up with Majed won the 9-Ball team competition. Ali Al Obaidly pocketed the 6-Red title, while Al Obaidly and Ahmed Said win the snooker team competition.
Member of Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation and director of the Qatar national teams Mohsen Bokshisha thanked the organising committees for hosting three championships – the Asian Snooker, IBSF 6-Red Snooker World Cup and GCC championships – over the past two weeks. Bokshisha pointed out of the efficiency of Qatari organisation, which is one of the main factors for the success of any sporting event held in the country.
Meanwhile, Asian Snooker Federation President Mohamed Salem Al Nuaimi valued the role of the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation (QBSF) in developing the game and spreading it on the continental and global levels. He praised Qatar for hosting tournaments at all levels, whether international, continental or Gulf.
Al Nuaimi said, in a press statement, QBSF has played a prominent role in the return of the billiards and snooker competitions after a period of absence due to the Coronavirus. He added that QBSF made all the necessary arrangements to host three tournaments, as well as the meeting of the General Assembly of the Asian Federation and the General Assembly of the International Federation.
