As part of its efforts to enhance the traffic flow in all parts of the country, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced the completion of the second and final phase of Ali bin Abi Talib Street development project in New Slata, in addition to converting the TV Roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection.
The two projects will be opened to traffic today, in the presence of Brigadier Mohammed Abdul Rahim Marafia, Director of Engineering and Traffic Safety Department at the General Directorate of Traffic; Jamal Mattar Al Nuaimi, Director of Doha Municipality; and Abdullah bin Saeed Al Sulaiti, Member of the Municipal Council for the seventh constituency; Jassim Abdullah Al Malki, Member of the Municipal Council for the First constituency; Abdullah Al Hitmi, member of the Municipal Council for the fourth constituency; and a number of the project managers and officials from Ashghal.
Saoud Ali Al Tamimi, Manager of Roads Projects at the Public Works Authority, said that Ashghal has been keen on opening a number of important projects ahead of Eid Al Adha and the beginning of the new academic year 2017-2018 in order to reduce congestion and ease traffic. The new openings include Ali bin Abi Talib Street, TV Intersection, Messila Tunnel, the Expanded Jasim bin Hamad Street, and parts of the Old Traffic Roundabout that is being converted to signal-controlled intersection, as well as the two tunnels at Pearl Interchange.
Brigadier Marafia said: “The new openings implemented by Ashghal before Eid and the start of the new academic year contribute greatly to enhancing the traffic flow. Converting the TV and Sport roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections and the development of Ali bin Abi Talib Street and opening the two tunnels at the Pearl Interchange will have the greatest impact on the traffic flow especially at peak times and during school days”.
In regards to the opening of Ali bin Abi Talib Street, Eng Nuaimi said: “Ali bin Abi Talib Street has great importance in linking C-Ring Road and D-Ring Road, also it is considered as the second artery road connecting Doha and the western regions, like Al Rayyan Municipality, and reducing the traffic burden on Salwa Road and other main streets”.
Al Sulaiti said that the street is considered one of the most vital streets in the area. He praised Ashghal’s efforts to complete the work on time and before Eid and the start of the academic year.
Mohamed Arqoub Al Khaldi, Head of Doha Section in Roads Projects Department in Ashghal, said that opening the project 15 days ahead of schedule is a proof on Ashghal’s keenness and intense efforts to speed up completion of important projects and open them to traffic on or before schedule to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion. Ali bin Abi Talib Development project is part of phase six of a project to develop roads and roundabouts in various areas in greater Doha.
The project included converting Al-Maahed & Al-Qafila Roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections, in addition to developing Ali bin Abi Talib Street, which connects the C-Ring Road and the D-Ring Road, to include three lanes in each direction instead of two. Al-Maahed Street & Al-Qafila Street, which links Salwa Road to Ali bin Abi Talib Street, were also developed to include two lanes in each direction.
