Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has renewed its call for the public to strictly adhere to maritime safety requirements to help prevent accidents and ensure safe and enjoyable sea trips, stressing that the safety of all marine users remains a top priority.
In a public awareness message issued under the slogan “For Safe Marine Trips,” the Ministry, represented by the Coast and Borders Security, urged boat owners and seafarers to observe key safety measures before setting out to sea and throughout their journeys.
The Ministry emphasized that checking weather conditions before departure is one of the most important steps in planning a safe voyage, as changing sea and weather conditions can significantly affect navigation and overall safety.
Among the essential requirements highlighted by the Ministry is the installation of a Very High Frequency (VHF) radio and ensuring it remains switched on International Channel 16, enabling continuous communication and rapid contact with maritime authorities in the event of an emergency.
The awareness message also stressed the importance of carrying a marine compass to support navigation, particularly in situations where visibility may be reduced or electronic navigation systems become unavailable.
To enhance personal safety, the Ministry advised all passengers and crew members to wear life jackets throughout the journey.
