BAGHDAD: At least 22 people were killed and scores of others injured by a series of bomb attacks that rocked Baghdad on Monday, local security and medical sources told Anadolu Agency.
"A car bomb went off in a market, killing 12 and injuring 33 people in northern Baghdad’s Shaab neighborhood," a Baghdad-based medical source, who asked not to be named due to fears for his safety, told Anadolu Agency.
Shortly afterward, another suicide car bomb went off outside a police station in Tarmiyah, a northern district of Baghdad, killing four -- including the bomber -- and injuring ten, Iraqi Army Major Nader al-Janabi told Anadolu Agency.
And in Baghdad's eastern Shia-majority Sadr City district, three people were reportedly killed and another 12 injured when a booby-trapped motorbike exploded, while another bombing in southern Baghdad killed three and injured seven.
Notably, the attacks coincide with an ongoing campaign by the Iraqi army and allied forces -- now in its second week -- to free the city of Fallujah (located roughly 50 kilometers west of the capital) from the Daesh terrorist group.
