Qatar’s industrial sector PPI up 69.48% Y-o-Y in March

Doha: The overall monthly Producer Price Index (PPI) of Qatar’s industrial sector for March 2022 was estimated at 145.67 points, showing an increase of 69.48 percent when compared to the PPI of the corresponding month the previous year (March 2021).

When compared on month-on-month (M-o-M) basis, the PPI of March 2022 showed an increase of 8.88 percent against PPI of the previous month (February 2022), official data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.

The ‘Mining’ sector PPI registered an increase of 9.87 percent when compared with the PPI of February 2022, primarily due to the price increase of “Crude petroleum and natural gas” by 9.88 percent, and “Other mining and quarrying” decrease by 0.53 percent.

The PPI of March 2022, when compared with its counterpart in previous year (March 2021), there was an increase of 75.05 percent.

In the ‘Manufacturing’ sector index, an increase of 4.89 percent has been recorded in March 2022, when compared with the previous month’s Manufacturing index (February 2022). The prices increase were seen in: “Refined Petroleum products” by 14.47 percent, followed by “Printing and reproduction of recorded media” by 10.04 percent, “Chemicals and chemical products” by 3.70 percent, “Basic metals” by 2.79 percent, “Rubber and Plastics products” by 0.31 percent, “food products” by 0.21 percent, and “Beverages” by 0.06 percent.

However, the decreasing price was noticed in “Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 0.04 percent.

When compared with the previous year’s (March 2021) index, ‘Manufacturing’ PPI of March 2022 showed an increase of 52.48 percent. The major groups which explain this price increase were: “Refined Petroleum products” by 67.03 percent, followed by “Chemicals and chemical products” by 62.69 percent, “Rubber and Plastics products” by 38.10 percent, “Basic metals” by 33.68 percent, “Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 15.61 percent, and “Food products” by 1.09 percent.

However prices decreased in “Beverages” by 2.25 percent, and “Printing and reproduction of recorded media” by 0.21 percent.

The PPI of the ‘Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply’ showed a decrease of 4.96 percent compared to February 2022. When compared the PPI of March 2022, to the PPI of March 2021 (Y-o-Y), showed a decrease of 5.34 percent.

Also, the PPI of the ‘Water supply’ showed a decrease of 3.41 percent compared to February 2022. When compared the PPI of March 2022, to the PPI of March 2021 (Y-o-Y), showed a decrease of 2.34 percent.
