DOHA: A criminal court has sentenced an Asian man to death by firing squad for killing a male colleague for breaking his heart.
The convict had fallen in love with the victim and had designs on him, but his love was unrequited, reports Al Sharq. The court said in its ruling that the death sentence could be waived if the family of the victim agreed to accept blood money.
Details of the case suggest that the convict and the victim worked in a construction company, and while the former was in a senior position the victim was a labourer.
Initially, both were “intimate and friendly”, and the convict would show his “love” for the victim by doing him favours like dropping him wherever he wanted to go. The victim’s friends, however, warned him against being “close” to the convict, after which he began distancing himself from him.
The convict, in the mean time, went home on vacation for three months and got black magic done to win back the victim’s love. But when he returned from vacation and phoned the victim, confident that the black magic would have worked, he was shocked as his call went unanswered.
The convict went to the Industrial Area, where the victim stayed, and saw him come out with a man he suspected was the victim’s latest lover. It was late in the evening and the convict got the victim into his car on the pretext that he would drop him wherever he wanted to go.
He then drove to a dark alley, where he asked the victim why he was avoiding him. The victim slapped him, at which the convict got furious and put his neck in a chokehold. The victim soon dropped dead.
The convict dumped his body there, took his mobile phone and put it in a dumpster in Al Wakra to fool the law-enforcement agencies.
The police were told about the body lying in the alley. They suspected foul play. The victim’s friends were identified and questioned and they eventually led the police to the convict, who confessed to the crime. The Peninsula
