Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) has announced a compelling evening of Romantic grandeur and Viennese elegance, to be held on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 7.30pm at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) Auditorium 3.

Under the baton of German conductor Elias Grandy, the orchestra will be joined by internationally acclaimed German pianist Joseph Moog for a programme that promises to showcase both symphonic depth and sparkling charm.

According to posts on QPO’s official social media accounts, the concert, which forms part of the QPO’s ongoing 2025-2026 season, highlights the ensemble’s commitment to presenting masterpieces that blend technical brilliance with profound emotional resonance.

At the heart of the evening is Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in B Flat Major, Op. 83. This monumental work, often described as a symphony for piano and orchestra, opens with a famous horn call that immediately sets a majestic tone. Spanning four movements, the concerto moves from sweeping orchestral dialogues to moments of tender intimacy between soloist and ensemble. Moog, known for his virtuosic yet deeply expressive interpretations, is expected to bring out the concerto’s blend of power and lyricism. Grandy and the QPO will provide a rich, supportive framework for what many consider one of Brahms’ most ambitious and rewarding compositions.

Following the interval, the programme continues with Franz Schubert’s Symphony in B Minor, D. 759, popularly known as the “Unfinished Symphony”. Left with only two completed movements, the work stands as one of classical music’s most haunting and beautiful fragments. Its lyrical themes, dark undertones and sense of unresolved tension have captivated audiences for nearly two centuries.

Under Grandy’s direction, the QPO is poised to highlight the symphony’s extraordinary beauty and emotional depth, allowing listeners to experience the music’s inevitable flow and lingering mystery.

The concert will conclude on a lighter, more festive note with Josef Strauss’ Sphärenklänge (Music of the Spheres), Op. 235.

This shimmering waltz captures the elegance and sparkle of 19th-century Vienna, offering a delightful contrast to the preceding works. With its graceful melodies and buoyant rhythms, the piece provides a joyful finale that is certain to leave the audience enchanted.

The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, established as Qatar’s premier symphonic ensemble, continues to enrich the nation’s cultural landscape by bringing world-class artists and repertoire to local audiences. The collaboration with Elias Grandy and Joseph Moog underscores the QPO’s dedication to excellence and its role in fostering appreciation for classical music across the region.  Tickets for the performance are now available. Patrons can purchase them online via the official QPO ticketing portal, by email at qpoboxoffice@qf.org.qa, via WhatsApp on 50815140, or by telephone on 44546393 (weekdays, 8am to 3pm). This upcoming event offers music lovers in Doha and beyond a rare opportunity to experience three cornerstones of the Romantic and Viennese repertoires in a single evening. With its blend of dramatic intensity, lyrical beauty and sparkling charm, the concert is set to be a highlight of the spring cultural calendar.
