Doha: The second day of Build Your House (BYH) Exhibition 2022 welcomed a fantastic number of visitors, exhibitors, speakers, and saw the awarding of the winners of the Junior Interior Designer Competition. The three-day collaborative platform gathers leading industry experts, government entities, and Qatari nationals together at the Qatar National Convention Centre to stimulate the real estate and construction sectors in the country.
The expo provides attendees with an opportunity to find the right consultants to oversee their new home build or renovation project and a chance to browse and find the materials they need for their project. Visitors enjoyed exploring over 150 exhibitors and two international pavilions, featuring renowned brands from Türkiye and Portugal, and discovering intelligent home technology and renewables, architectural trends, and wide array of new materials.
BYH Exhibition 2022 continued to showcase its support to Qatar’s future designers with its Best Interior Design Competition held in collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar). BYH Exhibition held a special presentation to award this year’s winners on stage. The three winners were: Jood Elbeshti in first place; Noor Abdulmalik as second runner up; and Laura AlFardan in third place. The winners received award certificates and the opportunity to display their designs at the exhibition.
Commenting on their participation at the competition, first place winner, ElBeshti said: “The design process was a fun challenge and knowing that it will be exhibited in the BYH was a driving factor for me and my classmates to do our best”.
Dr. Haithem A. El Hammali, Assistant Professor of Interior Design at VCUarts Qatar said: “For our students to take their projects out of the classroom and into the real world is an invaluable educational opportunity. This event is also a platform for our talented young students who will become their potential designers in the future to promote their design ideas and skills to the potential professional or homeowner visitors who are looking to build or refurbish their homes”.
BYH Exhibition’s Future and Smart Living Conference enables visitors to gain information about the complete construction cycle, explore new architectural trends, and discover smart technology for assistive living. This year’s conference offers a new format, which is divided into three sections: presentations by government agencies; specialised topics for the latest innovations in smart home technology, sustainability, and modern lifestyle; and lectures in cooperation with the American Society of Architects in the evening.
Yesterday’s line up of speakers included: Abdulrahman Khaled Al Mutawa, Engineering Drawings Department Officer at the Civil Defence who introduced the ‘Technical requirements needed to approve and process homebuilding’; Ali A. Alraouf, Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at Hamad Bin Khalifa University who presented ‘Features of housing and residential neighborhoods in the post-COVID era’; and Daniel Gereis, Mohamed Eid and Ahmed El Didi from Bluu design who presented the ‘Relationship between architecture and design from client brief to build.’
