Al Sailiya yesterday returned to winning ways with a commanding 5-2 win over newcomers Al Markhiya in a round-three clash in QNB Stars League.
Wagner Ribeiro (3), Dragos Grigore (23), Magdi Sedeeq (38), Temurkhuja Abdukholiqov (55) and Valentin Marius Lazar (85) scored the goals for Al Sailiya - coached by Sami Trabelsi - at Al Arabi Stadium. Al Sailiya lost to Al Sadd last week.
The goals for Al Markhiya were scored by Alain Traore (12) and Al Mujbil Deyab (88).
The game barely settled down into a rhythm when Al Sailiya grabbed the lead in the 4th minute through a spectacular effort from Wagner.
In their first serious threat at Al Sailiya goal, Al Markhiya produced an equaliser in the 12th minute through Burkina Faso striker Traore who fired one in off a direct free kick some 25 meters away from the goalline. It was Traore’s first goal of the season.
In the 23rd minute, Al Sailiyah - sporting blue outfits - jumped to a 2-1 lead when Grigore produced a snapheader off a Wagner free-kick. Seven minutes from the first-half whistle, Al Sailiya skipper Sedeeq fired one home off an indirect corner kick to take the visitors to a 3-1 lead.
Abdukholiqov added to Al Markhiya’s woes when he powered one into the net with a header in the 55th minute as the visitors exhibit their free-flowing scoring prowess.
Lazar scored the fifth goal for Al Sailiyah in the 85th minute. Al Markhiya’s Al Deyab reduced the deficit with a slick finish two minutes from time.
