DOHA: Qatar has submitted a paper to Arab League on the need to provide protection to women, children and the family.
In the paper to the director-general, Qatar highlighted its efforts to provide protection to the said segments of society, reports QNA.
One of the initiatives Qatar has taken is a government body it has set up to take care of the property (movable and immovable) of the underage.
It uses and invests assets of the underage in such a way that they multiply over time and the future financial security of the minor is guaranteed.
The aim is to protect the assets of the underage and invest to ensure a dignified life for the minor (those who lack the required age for legal maturity).
Qatar has implemented two laws to help protect the rights of the underage and orphans — Law No. 40 of 2004 and Law No. 49 of 2009. Under the second law, a public authority for the underage was set up under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
Another important institution Qatar set up was to take care of orphans. Foundation for the Care of Orphans is known as Dhriema. The state-backed institution provides integrated care to orphans, the Qatari paper said.
