Doha: The Centre for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan Centre) organised an interactive workshop entitled “The Giving Continues” within its volunteer programme, with the participation of a number of volunteers from different age groups.
The workshop comes within a programme that is adopted by the centre to activate the role of social responsibility and affirm the values of cooperation, interdependence and solidarity among members of society, highlighting the concept of volunteering, which represents the humanitarian aspect of societal and cultural relations through giving and providing for the sake of the happiness of others.
Head of the Preparation and Design Department at the centre Zainab Al Kuwari confirmed that it aims to attract volunteers to serve, care and empower elderly people in the country, which is in line with the centre’s policy of encouraging volunteer work and community partnerships and aims to enhance the centre’s goals of empowering and caring for the elderly.
The workshop was presented by the Educational Consultant Jaber Al Araq Al Marri, who discussed the concept of genuine giving, which starts from childhood and lasts beyond old age, noting the positive aspects of this age and how to enjoy it in several ways, including reading, sitting with the grandchildren, working part-time, exercising, and being free from restrictions and stress.
He also pointed out the importance of exploiting this period in memorising the Quran and writing books when possible or reading them, adding that some might have an opportunity to start a business at this stage.
Al Marri stressed that “The Giving Continues” programme is aimed at creating good relations and exchanging experiences between the Centre and the participants, in addition to spreading the culture of giving in scientific and practical systematic ways, and building on participants’ views and expertise in this field.
At the end of the workshop, the participants presented a set of distinguished innovations, which, in their entirety, are in the interest of achieving the goals of the Ehsan Centre and for the benefit of the elderly, empowering them, taking care of them and providing a decent life for them.
