DOHA: Ahead of the Eid Al Adha holidays which fall in the second week of next month, the Doha Municipality has intensified inspections at all food outlets and abattoirs to ensure that they comply with the health regulations.
The Health Monitoring Section at the Doha Municipality has asked all its inspectors to keep a strict vigil on all outlets, especially commercial outlets and pastry shops offering special Eid promotions
Inspectors have been deployed at the Central Market which houses a number of food stores and wholesale food outlets to check if the food is stored and distributed in the proper way, the municipality said yesterday.
The inspection campaign also targets men’s and women’s salons, which attract a large number of customers during the holidays. About 28 veterinary doctors from the health unit of the municipality will monitor all the slaughter houses in the city - Al Ahli abattoir for cows and camels. Inspections have also been intensified at the central fish market and fresh fish selling point on the Corniche.
The meat and poultry sections of all commercial complexes have also come under strict scrutiny. The veterinarians, in collaboration with Widam company, have visited the abattoirs to assess their requirements in terms of the number of workers and ambulances for emergency situations. Entry and exit of porters to the abattoirs are being organized and the facilities are being provided with water tankers as well as generators.
If any health-related problems are detected in the animals, the meat will be destroyed either fully or partially and a certificate will be issued to the customers showing the details. The municipality’s food unit at the central market will carry out inspections at all groceries, supermarkets and fruit and vegetable stores in the area from September 3 and September 9.
During Eid holidays, inspections will take place at the auction yard for imported fruits and vegetables at the central market from 4.30 am to 10.30am and from 7.30 pm to 1.30pm. The campaign will also target all the food stalls and storage facilities in Industrial Area. The municipality has asked the public to get their animals slaughtered only at the authorised abattoirs.
The Al Rayyan municipality has also increased the number of veterinarians at the two abattoirs in the municipality, an official has said.
