Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Mechanical Equipment Department under the Public Services Affairs Sector, in cooperation with the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), organised a heat stress awareness initiative for ministry workers at Al Rayyan Municipality Theatre.
The initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of occupational health and safety, raise awareness of the risks of heat stress and ways to prevent it, and support the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 in providing a safe and sustainable working environment.
The initiative was attended by Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality; Mubarak Freish Al Salem, Vice Chairman of the Central Municipal Council; Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari, Vice Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee; as well as representatives of supporting entities, directors of departments and heads of sections within the Public Services Affairs Sector.
On the occasion, Eng. Al Karani said the initiative to raise workers’ awareness of heat stress reflects the ministry’s commitment to promoting a culture of occupational health and safety and strengthening partnerships with government, national and charitable organisations.
He noted that such efforts contribute to raising awareness of workers’ rights and providing a safe and healthy working environment, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Sharida Sultan Al Rumaihi, Director of the Mechanical Equipment Department, explained that the initiative is part of a series of awareness programmes implemented by the department in cooperation with its partners. These programmes aim to raise workers’ awareness of the risks of heat stress and strengthen compliance with occupational health and safety measures.
He said this contributes positively to workers’ safety and the efficiency of the working environment, while highlighting the Ministry of Municipality’s commitment to protecting the workforce as a key pillar of the country’s development journey.
At the conclusion of the initiative, Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani honoured the supporting and participating entities in recognition of their contributions to the success of the initiative and their support for the ministry’s efforts to raise awareness and promote a culture of occupational health and safety.
Gifts were also distributed to workers, provided by the Qatar Red Crescent Society, Afif Charity Foundation, and Jassim and Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation. The gesture reflected the values of social responsibility, solidarity and community partnership in supporting workers and appreciating their efforts during the summer period.
The initiative’s programme included an awareness presentation and a specialised lecture addressing the dangers of heat stress, its symptoms and methods of prevention. It also highlighted the importance of complying with occupational health and safety procedures and approved preventive measures during the summer months, contributing to protecting workers and ensuring their safety at worksites.
