Aquino leads groundbreaking of P17.5-billion Cebu airport terminal 2

MACTAN, Cebu – President Benigno Aquino III today led the groundbreaking ceremony for the multi-billion Terminal 2 of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), paving the way for the construction of what can be considered as the first resort airport in the world.

Aquino officially signaled the construction of the P17.5-billion Terminal 2 with the groundbreaking of the project that forms part of the Public-Private Partnership projects approved under his administration.

The new terminal, slated for completion by summer of 2018, will increase the total capacity of MCIA from 4.5 million passengers to 12.5 million passengers.

The Terminal 2, located right beside the existing terminal, spans approximately 50,000 square meters with modular expansion capacity. Its architectural features blend modern building materials and Cebuano culture and heritage.

There will be a two-level forecourt segregating Arrival and Departure passengers that is fully integrated with landside development.

It will have a48 check-in counters that are expandable to 72. It also has provisions for seven (7) passenger boarding bridges, which can be expanded to 12 boarding bridges service wide and narrow body aircraft.

The passenger-friendly terminal will be equipped with 12 escalators and 15 elevators facilitating the easy movement of passengers, especially for persons with disabilities.

Future developments following Terminal 2’s opening in 2018 will include a mall and a hotel.
