United Nations, United States--The UN envoy for Libya, Bernardino Leon, has given warring parties until Sunday to respond to his latest proposal for a power-sharing deal, diplomats said Wednesday.
Leon told a closed-door Security Council meeting that he was "hopeful" an agreement could be reached, according to diplomats who heard his report.
The United Nations has been working since January on a deal on the formation of a national unity government.
Leon said he circulated a draft agreement to the parties two days ago and that the delegations were studying it with a view to provide a response on Sunday.
Libya, which is awash with weapons and armed factions following the toppling and death of dictator Moamer Kadhafi in 2011, has two rival governments and parliaments.
