DOHA: The private sectors of the GCC states want common employment contracts for expatriate workers and are keen to help refurbish the image of local manpower agencies and present them as humanitarian in front of the world.
A work team from the Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce and Industry held a meeting yesterday at the Qatar Chamber to discuss aspects of cooperation with the GCC ministries of labour and present the actual situation of migrant workers in the Gulf countries along with opportunities for cooperation between recruitment agencies in the GCC countries, reported QNA.
A press statement released by the Qatar Chamber said that the team intends to propose a unified labour contract for migrant workers in line with the laws of each country, while taking into account the rights of both sides (the employers and the employees).
The team seeks to strengthen cooperation with relevant ministries, search for new countries to  explore their labour markets for recruitment and form a unified stance on recruitment agencies to help remove obstacles and problems facing them, the statement added.
The head of the work team Saad Nahar Al Baddah said the team, which was formed under the Federation of GCC Chambers, aimed to highlight the positive side of the Gulf recruitment offices, while Deputy General Manager of Qatar Chamber Saleh Al Sharqi stressed that the Chamber supports the Gulf work team to play its role and achieve the interests of businessmen while taking into consideration the rights of migrant workers and relevant international conventions.
The meeting was attended by Secretary General of the Federation of GCC Chambers Abdul Rahim Hassan Al Naqi and deputy head of the work team Ali Hamad Afifa, and director of research management and committees Saif Youssef Al Kuwari, in addition to Habib Al Khaja, a member of the work team from the United Arab Emirates, Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Raisi, representative of the Sultanate of Oman, Fareed Almahmeed, representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Naif Zwayyed, Executive Director of the national recruitment committee of the Council Saudi Chambers.
