A Moldovan folk dance and music show enthralled the audience at the Katara Opera House on Friday. Wearing colourful costumes, students of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts of Chisinau, a leading Moldovan cultural institution, entertained the crowd with their impressive performance of a number of dance items depicting the rich cultural heritage of Moldova. This was the second time in less than a year that a Moldovan show was staged at Katara.
The event was attended by Salman Al Naimi, Director of coordination and follow-up unit at Katara, Moldovan Ambassador Valeriu Tihonov, ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions as well as the Moldovan community and members of other expatriate communities. Speaking at the event on behalf of Katara, Al Naimi expressed delight in hosting the event for the second time in less than a year. This follows the success of the first Moldovan musical event which showcased the beauty of Moldova and its rich cultural heritage, he said.
In a statement, Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said Katara is always keen to host cultural events from different parts of the world. He expressed hope this event will be followed by other Moldovan cultural and art events because culture is a means for bringing people together as well as in the promotion of peace across all cultures.
Ambassador Tihonov expressed appreciation of the excellent efforts of Katara in hosting the event. He thanked the performers for presenting an important aspect of the culture of Moldovan people noting Moldova is rich in cultural heritage and creative people.
The blend of colourful costumes, beautiful music and engaging dance items was met with huge applause from an appreciative audience from various communities.The Peninsula
