ANKARA: The Turkish army destroyed 12 PKK positions in airstrikes against the terrorist group in northern Iraq, military said early Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff, fighter jets carried out the airstrikes in the Avasin-Basyan and Qandil regions on Sunday between 8.01-9.03 pm (17.01-1803GMT).

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July last year.
Since then, more than 300 civilians and nearly 800 security personnel have been martyred. Around 8,000 PKK terrorists have been killed or apprehended.
