Doha: Al Rayyan secured their second consecutive victory in the 2025-2026 Men’s Basketball League, defeating Al Ahli 91-71 in a commanding performance yesterday, at Al Gharafa Sports Club. The match, part of the second round of the championship, showcased Al Rayyan’s dominance and readiness to compete for the title.
Al Rayyan displayed a balanced and disciplined performance throughout the game, leveraging strong defensive play and swift offensive transitions. They took control early, winning the first quarter 27-22 and dominating the second with a 20-11 scoreline, leading 47-33 at halftime. Their momentum continued in the third quarter, where they outscored Al Ahli 25-16, further widening the gap. Despite Al Ahli’s efforts to rally in the fourth quarter, winning it 22-19, Al Rayyan sealed a convincing 20-point victory.
This win elevates Al Rayyan to four points, tying them with Al Shamal at the top of the league standings. Al Ahli, with one win and one loss, holds three points. Al Rayyan’s Abdullah Yassin was the standout performer, scoring 22 points and leading his team to victory, while Nigel Armoni Johnson led Al Ahli with 19 points.
The second round of the league featured other exciting results: Al Wakrah defeated Qatar Club 80-75, Al Arabi triumphed over Al Sadd 103-84, and Al Shamal edged out Al Gharafa in a thrilling overtime match, 124-116. Al Khor had a bye this round.
