Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is hosting the Third Meeting of Senior Officials of Red Crescent Societies at the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) in Doha.
The two-day meeting, is attended by representatives of GCC Red Crescent Societies. Other attendees include Mohsen Mubarak Al-Dossari and Badr Abdullah Al-Zubairi from the GCC Secretariat-General and Dr. Elias Ghanem, MENA Director, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
The meeting was preceded by a lecture by Dr. Elias Ghanem about the constitutional meetings of the International RCRC Movement. The guests took a tour of QRCS's Disaster Management Information Center (DMIC).
The meeting covered a wide range of humanitarian topics of concern, including: the use of GCC emblem together with the emblems of individual GCC Red Crescent Societies, follow-up on the GCC efforts to improve the living conditions of Syrians in neighboring countries, the GCC humanitarian aid to Yemen, and a unified GCC position at regional and international organizations.
Regarding the IFRC 32nd Conference to be held in Geneva in December, the participants discussed a GCC coordination meeting and humanitarian exhibition, GCC nominations for committee memberships, RCRC constitutional amendments, and preparations for the 2016 UN Global Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.
QRCS was assigned to hold a workshop on the Seville Agreement proposed amendments.
Among the agenda items are: guidelines on the International disaster response laws, GCC proposals to promote a humanitarian culture, the academic committee on teaching humanitarian action, the restoring family links program, field visits, joint training, and promotion of volunteerism.
Qatar Red Crescent Secretary-General Saleh bin Ali Al-Mohannadi welcomed the guests and said, "This is a very critical time for our region, which requires more coordination and communication. In the overcoming of the current sufferings, we as humanitarians and relief organizations are key players."
Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Al Saud from Saudi Arabia stressed the importance of unifying GCC efforts during the IFRC international conference and selection of Arab and Gulf nominees, towards the common goals.
Dr. Fawzi Al-Amin from Bahrain noted that the humanitarian diploma is almost completed, expecting registration to start in January 2016. "This professional certification system is recognized by IFRC and ICRC, and a main part of it will be QRCS's annual Disaster Management Camp."
