Doha, Qatar: The Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CGB), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), has unveiled the National Programme for Career Guidance for the academic years 2026-2027, aimed at helping Qatar’s students make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.
Themed “From Early Awareness to Choosing the Future,” the initiative reflects a broader national push to align the country’s education system more closely with the evolving needs of the labour market, officials said.
According to posts on CGB social media accounts, the programme rests on four main objectives. The first is to strengthen career awareness among students from an early stage of their education, giving them exposure to different professional fields well before they reach critical decision points in their schooling.
The second objective focuses on linking educational pathways with the requirements of the job market, ensuring that the subjects and specialisations students pursue correspond to areas of genuine economic demand. This is intended to reduce the gap between what graduates study and the skills employers are actively seeking.
A third pillar of the programme is dedicated to supporting students as they make well-considered decisions about their academic and career trajectories, rather than leaving such choices to chance or last-minute pressure.
The fourth goal centres on introducing students to the range of specialisations and future career paths available to them, offering clearer visibility into the options open across various sectors of the economy.
Officials described the programme as part of a wider effort to build a generation of students who are better equipped to navigate their educational choices with confidence and clarity. By intervening early in students’ academic journeys, the ministry hopes to cultivate stronger self-awareness around personal strengths and interests, while also fostering a more informed understanding of how those interests translate into viable career paths.
The initiative underscores Qatar’s continued investment in human capital development as part of its long-term national vision, with education authorities positioning career guidance as a foundational component of student success — one that begins well before graduation and extends into a young person’s transition to higher education or the workforce.
