The first edition of MedFood 17, a food and medicine exhibition, organised by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Industry, concluded on Tuesday with the participation of 34 Qatari companies. The exhibition was successful in creating awareness about local products.
A number of manufacturers participating in the exhibition confirmed that MedFood 17 has succeeded in achieving the objectives set for it. It provided the opportunity for factories and companies specialised in foodstuffs and pharmaceutical to present their products, create new marketing windows, and make contacts with government agencies, private companies, suppliers and manufacturers. They stressed on the importance of this exhibition, which is the first of its kind specialised in food and pharmaceutical held after the siege imposed on Qatar.
Director General of Qatar Chamber, Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi said that the Chamber was keen to invite the owners of shopping malls and shopping centers to identify the national products for them and build relations with the Qatari industrial companies specialised in the production of food and medical products in order to enhance the presence of the national product in those complexes and shopping malls.
He also pointed out that many of the owners of the commercial complexes visited the exhibition and saw the national products.
The two-day exhibition witnessed discussions with the exhibitors about the appropriate mechanism to enhance cooperation between the commercial complexes and the Qatari industrial companies in order to give priority to the national product in the Qatari market. Al Sharqi expressed the hope that the exhibition will contribute to raising the awareness of the society about the national products. He pointed out that the Qatari companies participating in the exhibition confirmed their intention to increase production levels in order to meet the increasing demand in the local market. He added several investors plan to launch new industrial projects in the food sector.
Director General of Qatar Chamber added that what distinguished this edition of the exhibition of food and medicine is that it’s limited to the display of local products and that the next edition of the exhibition will attract international companies so that their Qatari counterparts benefit from the expertise of these international companies.
The MedFood 17 aims to provide a platform for food and pharmaceutical manufacturers to showcase their products, share experiences, explore private sector initiatives to achieve food and pharmaceutical security, and increase the sector’s contribution to self-sufficiency and enhance the slogan “Made in Qatar”.
