DOHA: Al Wakrah heritage market yesterday witnessed huge turnout of visitors, including tourists from other GCC countries.
More people came yesterday compared to the first three days of Eid holidays because yesterday’s weather was better. They also came early to avoid traffic and reach the market on time.
Many families from GCC now prefer Qatar for spending Eid holidays and main destinations attracting them are traditional markets such as Souq Waqif and recently Al Wakrah heritage market close to the beach. The families are keen to visit Qatar because some have relatives here.
Citizens, residents and visitors from neighbouring countries like to spend time in these markets which remind them of the past. Cafeterias and restaurants in these markets providing local and Arabic cuisine have also been a draw for visitors.The Peninsula
