DOHA: Service seekers at government offices experienced delays due to huge rush on Sunday as work resumed after the Eid Al Fitr holidays.
People who went to ministries and the Medical Commission said they had to wait for long. Some returned without getting the work done, an Arabic daily reported yesterday.
Car parks of government offices and ministries were full and some visitors were forced to park at other places.
Mahmoud Abu Aliz, who visited the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, said, “I came at 8.30am and couldn’t finish my work until 11am. There are still 56 people in the queue ahead
of me.”
Many who visited several ministries such as the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs also shared similar experiences.
Some also complained that only a limited number of staff has return to work at several government offices after the 11- day break.
Adil Ahmed, a visitor to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, said, “It’s 11.30am and I’m here since 8am. I came to get a labour contract certified and couldn’t get it done yet. It seems some staff has not returned to work after the holidays.”
“On rush days, even if two or three staff are absent, it causes delay,” he added.
The Medical Commission in Abu Hamour was among one of the places that saw a huge rush on Sunday.
Hundreds were waiting for their compulsory medical checks in order to get the resident permit. Many were found standing outside the building in the hot and humid weather.
Several people were left with no option but to park their vehicles on the roadside or in front of the Medical Commission’s gate that created traffic congestion.
Hamad Al Hajiri, a Qatari visitor to the Medical Commission, said, “This place is always crowded, and it’s obvious to get people in such big numbers after a long break.
However, visitors to different departments of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said they experienced less delays.
Ahmed Al Hajaji said, “I got my work done quickly, may be because the MoI’s departments were functioning during the holidays and not many people had to wait until the break is over.”
