KARACHI: The crippling heatwave has claimed over 1,100 lives in Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub. The Sindh government has placed the blame for these deaths on the city’s electricity provider K-Electric.
Sindh Home Minister Sharjeel Memon spoke with reporters after visiting patients at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and claimed that K-Electric and the federal government were responsible for the power crisis in Karachi.
According to Memon, K-Electric earned billions but did not spend even one Rupee on fixing the faulty system.
He went on to say that the electricity provider needs to mend its ways and fix its rotten system.
The Sindh Home Minister further said that load shedding has become a punishment for people as hundreds of lives have been lost to the increased crisis as well as heat.
He added that due to heatstroke, the bodies of victims are coming to hospitals, adding that most of these victims are elderly people.
Coincidentally, power at the hospital was suspended while Memon was talking to the media.
