Car dealers will have to disclose repairs

DOHA: To ensure a fair deal for customers, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce yesterday made it mandatory for car dealers to disclose all the repair works a car may have undergone before finalising the sale.
The showrooms will have to get a written statement from the customer saying that he has full knowledge of the repairs carried out on the car.
The ministry’s announcement comes after several car dealers were shut down temporarily for selling repaired cars as brand new. Many customers had complained to the ministry about car dealers selling them repaired cars as new ones. Taking note of the complaints, the ministry conducted raids on many car showrooms and found the dealers taking customers for a ride. The inspectors found repaired cars that were being sold as new. The ministry ordered closure of the erring car dealers for a month.
Car dealers will face strict legal action if they fail to disclose the repairs carried out on cars to buyers, said the ministry. The new disclosure norm is likely to bring respite to car buyers in Qatar, who had to keep their fingers crossed about the condition of the car.THE PENINSULA
