Qatar donates $50m to Indonesia to support Rohingya refugees

DOHA: The Emir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday ordered to donate $50m (QR182m) aid to the government of Indonesia to cover the cost it bears for hosting the Rohingya refugees.

The announcement came in the backdrop of the Emir’s meting with the visiting Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi who briefed the Emir on the efforts made by Indonesia and Malaysia to tackle the issue of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh and providing them with support as a temporary solution that includes shelter.

The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed a set of issues of mutual interest, reports QNA.

At the outset of the meeting, the minister conveyed greetings of President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, to the Emir and his wishes of health and happiness.
