At least 15 job applicants went home with a smile on their lips Tuesday happy for an answered prayer. At the end of the first day of the Manila Bulletin Classifieds Job Fair at the Skydome of SM North EDSA in Quezon City these applicants were hired on the spot.

Manufacturing company Famous Secret and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms Customer Contact Channels (C3) and Staff Virtual ended the first day of the job fair with new employees.

Pegie Mae Capilitan, 23 of Tarlac city was offered a customer service representative position by C3.

“I felt relieved, as I’ve been scouting for work here in Manila for about two weeks, and commuting is quite difficult. I’m very thankful [for being hired],” said the Business Administration graduate of Tarlac State University.

Capilitan was initially eyeing a certain banking company, but eventually welcomed the prospect of working for a call center. “I want to enhance my communication skills, as I need to intensely invest in these,” she said.

Another applicant hired on the spot Tuesday was 20-year-old Jinno Anquilo. “I got depressed after I wasn’t hired by a firm a few days ago, so I took a ‘second chance’ by coming here,” he said.

The Manila Central University nursing undergrad plans to resume his studies soon and work as a nurse. “If you don’t get hired, it hurts at first. But think that there are still opportunities with other companies,” he said.
