DOHA: Qatar, who are undergoing training at Aspire Academy, are ready to take on visitors Azerbaijan in an international friendly today.
The friendly today is part of Qatar’s preparation for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Iran on June 4.
Last week, Qatar crushed Latvia 3-1 in another friendly at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Yesterday, the Qatar squad trained twice under the watchful gaze of coach Fahad Thani.
“We will train for three more days after our game on Wednesday,” coach Fahad said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Qatar defender Bilal Mohammed has pledged ‘total commitment’ in their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Iran early next month.
On June 4, Qatar host Iran in Doha before heading to Uzbekistan for the last Group A, Asian Zone, qualifying match on June 18.
Also known as ‘Al Anabi’, Qatar are in fourth place in Group A, Asian Zone, qualifying phase behind Uzbekistan, Korea and Iran.
“You will see us giving our maximum effort against Iran,” Bilal said yesterday.
“We have enough depth in our side to beat them,” he added. “We will give a committed performance,” Bilal said.
“We are ready for this game. The players are rested and feel good,” he said. “We have been training with intensity,” he said.
“We are determined to pick up three points from this match. Picking up points in this match will give us the confidence for our game against Uzbekistan,” Bilal said.
“It won’t be easy. We will have to play quality football to win this match,” the Qatari defender said. THE PENINSULA
