Doha: Doha Academy Schools hosted Clinical Dietitian Dr. Alaa Mustafa Haykal who delivered a health awareness lecture talking about nutrition tips and heathy eating habits during the holy month of Ramadan.

Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh Al Thani, Founder and Chairperson of Al Faleh Educational Holding, commented, “By educating the students, we are encouraging them to take full part in fasting. It helps to create an awareness in the school about Ramadan to help students who are fasting feel more included and give them an overview about the proper eating tips and maintain healthy eating habits.”

Ramadan is the month of mercy and forgiveness. With the advent of the holy month, while finding  joy in discussing the spiritual, mental and physical benefits of fasting, it is important  to make health a priority and pay better attention to dietary recommendations during Ramadan.

Dr Alaa explained that when it comes to children, they should not fast until they reach the age of maturity, although some kids may express a desire to undertake a fast when they see their parents and older siblings doing so. She added: “It is important for people to create a proper meal plan in advance that will enable healthy eating and ensure their body gets its daily required nutrients during Ramadan”.

“At Doha Academy Schools we encourage our students to learn about this special month and to take advantage of the aspects of self-improvement that are associated with it.

“Ramadan is an opportunity to stop bad habits that negatively affect our health and adopt healthier and nutritious diets. Fasting relieves and strengthens the digestive system while increasing its efficiency, and helps adjust triglyceride levels in the blood,” she said.

Students enjoyed the lecture and had a fruitful Q&A session about the nutrition tips in Ramadan.
